Local bookstores offer us a door to a world of possibility and when we support them we keep money in our communities and keep these valuable footholds of human connection and information alive. They hold up a mirror to the communities they serve, reflecting our interests and values, showing us where we came from and where we're going. Fittingly, the sheer variety of the over 100 bookstores in Los Angeles county reflects the melting pot of cultures, ideas, and industries that made L.A. what it is. This project aims to highlight the many brick-and-mortar booksellers dotted all over Los Angeles and its adjacent counties and to encourage readers to get out and explore the embarrassment of riches at our fingertips.

• Has enough of a presence on Google maps that can be used to verify the store's existence, OR
• I have personally visited the store and have first-hand knowledge that it is an active storefront
• A large majority of the store is dedicated to books, there can't just be "bookstore" in the name and a small corner for books

• Mainstream MegaChain (Really just B&N at this point, rip Borders)
• Chains like Kinokuniya, BOOKOFF, Bargain Books, etc are included because they are either specialty stores or are second-hand stores that assume their own personalities based on the communities they are locaed in
• Campus Bookstores
• Online businesses with a business address listed on Gmaps, we're looking for browsable storefronts
• The owner has requested not to be included
